Scope of Practice
Scope of practice refers to the responsibilities, duties, functions, and activities for which a registered nurse is trained and granted legal authorization throughout their career. To provide high-quality nursing care, particular values must support the scope of practice for nurses. Nurses are encouraged to evaluate their scope of practice thoroughly and expand it where necessary. The scope of practice can serve as the context for nurses' decision-making in their day-to-day activities. As a nurse, one must adhere to the scope of practice and fulfill all obligations. My duties as a nurse are consistent with the American Nurses Association's description of the scope of practice. I make every effort to be medically competent in performing my duties.
A scope of practice involves the responsibilities, roles functions and activities which a registered nurse is trained and given authority to get involved in by law during their career. The scope of practice for nurses should be supported by specific values in order to provide quality nursing care. Nurses are encouraged to fully examine their scope of practice and expand where it is necessary to do so. The scope of practice can act as background to assist in decision making for nurses in their day-to-day activities. As a nurse, one must work in line with the scope of practice and do what is expected of them. My duties as a nurse are in line with the scope of practice as described by the American Nurse Association, and I make every effort to be medically competent in the execution of my duties.
I am currently a registered nurse working at South Miami Hospital in the state of Florida. With 6 years’ experience in Emergency room Nursing. I work at the Emergency Department and am responsible for patients who need emergency care. I serve as a charge nurse, triage nurse and as a stroke nurse in the hospital. I can perform all these duties excellently because I am proficient at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. I take care of high acuity patients who are in my work environment. I am also responsible for patients in the waiting room and family of patients under treatment.
I have several roles in which I undertake daily at work. As a charge nurse, I am responsible for taking medical records of patients and monitoring vital signs that might be shown by the patients. I also supervise nursing staff and take care of their needs, and oversee patients’ admissions, transfer and discharge. My role is to coordinate administrative duties like schedules, nursing assignments and patient care in the hospital. These is made possible y the fact that I am proficient in leadership and delegation skills.
